Why Astute Investor’s Calculus? (Or the Keys to be Successful in the Investment Game)
If you have chosen the right stocks and made the correct allocation, volatility is no longer a risk for you
Hello Everyone,
I am so excited to be able to introduce Shailesh to all of you. In the last 2 emails, you read about his investment process and also got a glimpse of one of the reports that he has shared with his subscribers. Let me tell you a little bit more about his investment philosophy.
Before I do this, I asked him why he uses the word Calculus in the name of his newsletter. According to him, his investment process takes into account multiple influences that come to bear on a portfolio’s performance and then integrates them to find an optimal solution. Which leads me to his investment philosophy:
1. The price you pay for the stock is more important than the price you sell at. Of course, to make money, both prices are important. However if you pick your buy price carefully, you remove the risk of loss. Once you remove the risk of loss, over long term you will make money even if you pick does not work out as you expect.
2. Two investors with exact same stocks in their portfolios can have wildly different returns over the same period of time. In fact, it is entirely possible for one investor to make outstanding profits, while the other investor wipes out. The stocks you pick are important, but how you allocate money to these stocks defines the risk you are taking. Warren Buffett has said that his main job is to allocate capital. This is statement carries a profound truth in investing, and almost no one pays attention to it.
3. You do not have to avoid market volatility. Welcome it and take advantage of it. If you have chosen the right stocks and made the correct allocation, volatility is no longer a risk for you – it is an opportunity. Exploit it.
