Markets Rally as Ceasefire Holds—For Now
Stocks pushed higher on Tuesday, riding a wave of geopolitical relief after news of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran—even if that ceasefire started off a little shaky. The Dow surged 508 points to 43,090 (+1.19%), the S&P 500 climbed 67 points to 6,092 (+1.11%), and the Nasdaq jumped 282 points to 19,913 (+1.43%). The Russell 2000 kept pace, adding 30 points to 2,163 (+1.43%).
Breadth was strong all day with advancers outpacing decliners by almost 4:1. Small caps outperformed and Tech led the charge with a +1.92% gain. Financials (+1.66%) and Communications (+1.39%) weren’t far behind. Energy and Consumer Staples finished in the red as oil collapsed and defensives cooled.
