And if we want professional-grade data sources, it often costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year.

Today I’m excited to share some new, genuinely useful updates in the MaxDividends app. But first, a quick thought.

Whenever I sit down in a work chair — the first time, and even after that — I want it to feel right. I adjust the seat height, the armrests, the back support. I make it my chair.
Because when the road is long, comfort matters. A lot.

That’s exactly how I think about MaxDividends.

This isn’t a “check it once and forget it” app. Dividend investing is a long journey — measured in years, even decades. And if you’re going to walk that road, your tools need to fit you. Your goals. Your habits. Your priorities.

That’s why every single day we work on making the dividend journey simpler, clearer, and more enjoyable — no matter where you are on the path.

And today, I want to show you a feature that brings this idea to life in a big way: Your Own Portfolio Dashboard.

At MaxDividends, we go deep on portfolio analytics, with a very clear focus on what actually matters: dividends, sustainability, growth, and long-term reliability.

The big news? You can now build your own personal portfolio dashboard — like a constructor.

Out of all the available analytics blocks, you choose:

• the metrics you care about most

• arrange them in the order that makes sense to you

• and see everything you need in one clean, focused view

Pretty cool? I think so too. Of course, I already built my own dashboard — and I’ll show it below.

Let’s walk through it step by step.

How to Build Your Own Portfolio Dashboard (Step by Step)

Open the app (or the web version — whatever you prefer). Inside your portfolio, you’ll now see a tab called My Dashboard.

Click on it. Then hit Create a feed.

That’s it — you’re ready to build your first custom dashboard.

Feed Settings

After clicking Create a feed, you’ll enter the dashboard builder.

Inside, you’ll see three tabs, each with different portfolio analytics blocks. Next to every block is a simple checkbox. This is where the philosophy of MaxDividends really shows up.

You’re not forced into someone else’s idea of what’s “important.” You decide:

• what you want to track

• what deserves your attention

• what helps you make better, calmer decisions

This is your personal analytics setup.

I selected a few blocks I look at most often — the ones that help me quickly understand:

• how my income is evolving

• how reliable my dividends are

• whether my strategy is still on track

Instead of jumping between multiple tabs, I now see everything in one place.

Done. I selected four blocks and finalized my first custom dashboard feed.

Setting the Display Order

Now comes the fun part.

Yes, I’ve chosen the analytics blocks that matter most to me. But I don’t just want to see them — I want them arranged in my preferred order.

Because this is my feed. And yours will be yours. So let’s set the order.

Simply drag the blocks into the sequence that feels right to you. Once everything is in place, click the X next to Feed Settings to save. That’s it.

Now, under My Dashboard, I have my own portfolio view — with the exact analytics I want, arranged exactly how I like them.

My favorite workspace is ready.

Bottom Line

One more small — but powerful — addition. You can now choose which portfolio tab opens by default.

Until now, the default tab was My Holdings. But starting today, you can pin any tab as your main view.

And yes — I pinned My Dashboard. Here’s how it works:

Step 1 - Open portfolio settings.

Step 2 - Choose the tab you want to make your default.

Click the pin icon — and you’re done.

Now, every time you open the app, your portfolio opens exactly where you want it to.
In my case — straight into My Dashboard.

Intro

I use the MaxDividends app all the time because I love knowing exactly what’s going on with my portfolio—where I stand today and what’s coming next. Which companies are paying me dividends this month? Am I staying right on track with my plan? How much have I already collected in dividends?

The app makes it super easy with a dedicated Dividends tab, and honestly—it’s awesome. So today, let’s walk through it together and break down the analytics blocks inside and how they work. Let’s dive in!

1) Annual Dividends

This shows the total dividends your portfolio is expected to generate over the next 12 months, based on the current or recently announced regular dividend payments from the companies you own.

Example 1: Company A pays $1 per share per year. You own 10 shares.

• Annual Dividends = 10 × $1 = $10

• Average Monthly Dividends = $10 ÷ 12 = $0.83

• Average Daily Dividends = $10 ÷ 365 ≈ $0.027

Example 2: Company B pays $4 per share per year, quarterly ($1 each quarter). They announce a dividend increase to $2 per quarter starting next quarter. You own 10 shares.

• Annual Dividends after the increase = $2 × 4 = $8 per share

• For 10 shares = 10 × $8 = $80 per year

• Average Monthly Dividends = $80 ÷ 12 ≈ $6.66

• Average Daily Dividends = $80 ÷ 365 ≈ $0.219

2) Top 3 Payers

This shows the three companies that paid you the most in dividends over the past 12 months — both regular and special dividends.

We calculate this by:

• Looking at all the dividends each company paid over the last 12 months.

• Checking how many shares you owned on each ex-dividend date.

• Adding it all up for each company.

The top three total payers take the spotlight here.

3) Dividend Yield

• Forward Dividend Yield (FWD): Your expected dividend yield one year from now, factoring in your portfolio’s average historical dividend growth over the past 3–5–10 years.

  Example: Current yield is 10%, average dividend growth is 20% per year → Next year’s projected yield = 10% + 20% = 12%.

• Dividend Yield on Cost: Your dividend yield based on your original investment.
  Example: Invested $100 three years ago, stock paid $5/year back then → Yield on Cost was 5%. Now it pays $10/year → Yield on Cost is 10%.

• Dividend Yield TTM: The yield you’d get if you bought your current portfolio today at today’s prices.

4) 10Y / 5Y / YTD Annual Dividend Growth

• 10Y Annual Dividend Growth: The average annual growth rate of your portfolio’s dividends over the past 10 years.
  Example: 10 years ago, $5/year → today $15/year = +300% total, ≈ +12% per year.

• 5Y Annual Dividend Growth: Same as above but for the past 5 years.

• YTD Dividend Growth: How much a company’s dividend payments have grown this year.
  Example: January = $1, April = $2 → +100% growth YTD.

5) Monthly Income

Shows both actual and projected monthly dividends:

• Past month: Actual dividends received (after record dates, before taxes).

• Current month: Actual + already declared upcoming payments.

• Future months: Based on declared dividends and forecasts from past payment history, your share count, and purchase dates.

6) Average Annual Dividend Growth

Average dividend growth in your portfolio for the selected period (1, 5, or 10 years).

Example: Same as the 10Y example above — $5/year → $15/year over 10 years = ≈ +12% annual growth.

This section breaks it down by each company you own.

7) Dividend Income by Industries

Shows your expected 12-month dividend income, broken down by industry using the GICS classification system.

We:

• Take the past 12 months of dividend payments for each company you own.

• Add them up (regular + special).

• Group by industry and show your top 10 sectors as both a list and a chart.

8) Payouts History

The full history of all dividend payments you’ve received since creating your portfolio — regular + special, before taxes.

9) Monthly Income Growth over Years

Total dividends per year (regular + special, before taxes), compared year-over-year for the past three full calendar years.

10) Dividend Growth by Industries (TTM)

Shows dividend growth in your portfolio by industry over the past 12 months:

• Compare average dividend per share now vs. one year ago for each company.

• Factor in your share count and portfolio weighting.

• Group results by industry and show overall growth rates.

I figured it’s time to give you a behind-the-scenes update on what’s been happening with the MaxDividends app — and show you how it’s helping build a growing stream of passive income from dividends.

So let’s talk about some of the “magic” going on under the hood lately. And I’ll start with the most important part: the data.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know how seriously we take this. We believe data accuracy is so critical, we built a dedicated in-house team whose only mission is to make MaxDividends the most accurate and reliable dividend data source in the world — giving you confidence when it’s time to make investment decisions.

Here’s what I mean:

Imagine you open your brokerage app, look at a stock, and it says the company pays a 6% yield and has strong growth. Sounds great, right? But what if that info isn’t actually accurate? Maybe the broker’s data is outdated or just flat-out wrong.

Or let’s say a company just cut its dividend, or raised it, or even suspended it entirely — but the platforms you rely on haven’t updated it yet. That’s the kind of mess we work hard to protect you from.

To fight back against that kind of noise, we built a specialized Data Review Team. Their job is simple: manually check incoming dividend and financial data from our providers and make corrections if needed.

We’ve actually been filtering and improving data behind the scenes for over three years now — a lot of that process is already automated and runs great. But this team takes it to the next level.

We kicked off the initiative at the end of May. In June, they manually reviewed 38 companies. In July? 490 companies! And the pace is picking up. The goal is to expand this effort every month to bring you the highest-quality dividend data anywhere.

What’s MaxRatio (and Why It Matters)?

MaxRatio is a custom metric developed by the MaxDividends team to help spot companies with strong long-term dividend potential. It’s designed for investors who want to grow a solid stream of passive income over time—not just chase quick returns.

Basically, MaxRatio highlights companies that combine solid current dividend payouts and strong dividend growth. It helps you focus on the businesses that are set up to deliver real results over the long haul.

How to Read MaxRatio

Lower MaxRatio (below 4)

Usually means the company is more focused on reinvesting in growth. These are typically fast-growing businesses that don’t pay much in dividends now, but could offer serious capital appreciation.

Higher MaxRatio (above 8)

Points to companies with a strong dividend focus. These stocks either: pay generous dividends today and increase them steadily over time or start with a smaller payout but have a history of raising dividends aggressively every year.

Mid-range MaxRatio (between 4 and 8)

Signals a balanced company—one that’s growing and rewarding shareholders at the same time. These are often sweet spots for long-term dividend investors.

The MaxRatio is calculated using current dividend yield, dividend growth over the past 3, 5, and 10 years, and the company’s latest Financial Score.

It’s one of the best ways we’ve found to cut through the noise and find dividend stocks that are actually built to last.

How I Use MaxRatio for My Own Investing

I’ve got three kids, and for their portfolios, I focus on solid, reliable companies with a Financial Score of 95 or higher and a MaxRatio under 4.

That way, I’m leaning more into long-term capital growth while still making sure the companies pay dividends — and raise them every year. I don’t know if the kids will want to keep these stocks later on, but in 15–20 years, some of these businesses could become serious income machines that grow for decades.

Once they turn 20, they’ll get full ownership and control of their stock portfolios — a head start I wish I had.

For the portfolios my wife and I manage together, I take a different approach. I focus more on balance — quality companies with strong dividend income and solid dividend growth. I usually screen for stocks with a Financial Score of 90+ (the higher, the better) and a MaxRatio of 8 or more.

At this point in my life, I’m less focused on chasing capital growth. What matters more is preserving what we’ve built — and making sure our monthly passive income keeps growing.

The idea is, within 10 years or so, we plan to be traveling more, and I’ll want a steady, no-drama cash generator flowing into our bank account. That’s where consistent dividend payers with a track record of regular increases (and zero hand-holding) really shine.
